Our Policeman is our Protector!
Police officers are injured every day across the world in the performance of
their duties. Some of these physical injuries are debilitating and can leave an
officer crippled. They are injured and sacrifice in many more ways than just
physically. Being a cop is a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week job. Police Officers
sacrifice in that they are working and protecting while we sleep, while we enjoy
the holidays, while we vacation, while we work, all hours and all days are
covered by the Police Officer, as one never knows when his services will be
needed. Police Officers also sacrifice in their personal lives. Yes, they have
personal lives! They do not always get to see their children play their baseball
game or act their part in the school play. They rarely get to see them open
their gifts at Christmas or get to relax with their family on other holidays,
because they have chosen a profession that 99% of the populace will not and can
not do. They have chosen to be our Protectors and they chose that role for many
reasons. Police Officers sacrifice in other ways too. They sacrifice emotionally
as well. They experience a high divorce rate, high suicide rate and higher than
normal incidence of alcohol abuse. These are all sacrifices that the Police
Officer makes and the job can take it's toll if allowed to. The ultimate
sacrifice that an officer can make is signified by the 21 gun salute. That is
giving his life in the line of duty to help and protect those that cannot help
and protect themselves. Again this is a role that the Officer has chosen. May
God bless all of their souls for the supreme sacrifice they made to make our
world a better place.

On average, one law enforcement officer is

over 15,000 officers have died while performing their duties. These figures are taken from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Database
